Haitian Boy Travels to Toledo to Fix Club Feet

Seven-year-old Jamesley Cine, of Haiti, was born with bi-lateral club feet, a condition where feet are turned inward, often so severely that the bottom of the foot faces sideways or even upward. In the United States, treatment usually begins immediately after birth, but for children in third world countries, the medical care just isn’t an option.

Thanks to the efforts of local physicians, a hard-working group of fundraisers and ProMedica, brave little Jamesly left his family and traveled to the United States in April 2015 for a surgery that would change his life.

Watch below as HealthConnect correspondent Nancy Douglas talks with Richard Munk, MD, a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon with ProMedica Physicians, and Ashley Pierre-Louis, the nurse who welcomed Jamesley into her home.
