ProMedica employees at ProMedica Toledo Hospital’s Center for Health Services spread love on Valentine’s Day by donating items to The Valentine Project, a nonprofit organization that sends care packages to children whose lives are affected by cancer or a chronic illness.
Santanna Bishop, office manager at Center for Health Services Adult Medicine, said that donations were the result of a collaborative effort among the Adult Medicine and Women’s Services offices, as well as other individuals within Center for Health Services. The call for help resulted in an outpouring of donations that included reading materials, toys, games, personal hygiene products, stuffed animals and even homemade Valentine’s Day cards–all within a 24-hour period.
“The most heart touching experience of this was hearing the stories of various staff members who explained the project to their children and how their children were excited to join in the project,” said Bishop. “Some children made homemade cards or even used their personal allowance to purchase gifts.”
Bishop and the other ProMedica employees hope that these packages will bring smiles to children. “This project allowed us a small window of opportunity to touch the lives of children affected by cancer and chronic illness,” said Bishop. “These children face so much and may miss a day of laughter and fun with fellow schoolmates. We were happy to be a small part of their support system.”
