Video: MLK Jr.’s Spirit Lives On in Local Kitchen

The MLK Kitchen for the Poor has been feeding the hungry with love, compassion and respect since 1969. From summer meals for children to meal deliveries for area shut-ins, the Toledo organization plays an important role in providing basic needs services to those in our community.

It’s for this reason that ProMedica is a proud partner with the organization, as the conditions in which people are born, live, learn, and work have a significant impact on their overall health. “The healthcare industry…must return to its charitable roots of more than a century ago, when hospitals were community pillars concerned with basic public health needs and overall health and welfare,” said Randy Oostra, ProMedica CEO and President, in a recent paper that addressed population health.

The MLK Kitchen for the Poor makes a significant impact, serving more than 200 people daily in a neighborhood where the average annual household income is $5,500. For a glimpse of the organization’s work and impact, view the video below.
